 SAC - ATV's 5 point safety program

  1. ROUTES       Inherently unsafe routes- those with blind spots, sharp cures or very hilly-  will have higher incident rates.   So, to start with, our Road-Routes must be Safe Routes.  Input from various levels of government (Sheriffs Dept., DNR, County Highway) will be sought regarding safety factors, such as "line-of-sight" and car count on each proposed Road-Route.  And then, with local and Township input Routes will be suggested.
  2. ​EDUCATION & TRAINING    ALL members are encouraged to take the DNR Safety Certification course- either hands-on or on-line.  While all riders born on or after 01/01/88 are required to take the Safety certification course and must carry the card while riding, it is recommended that first-time riders take the hands-on course. 
  3. SAFE SPEEDS / SAFE TIMES      Various towns have set a speed limit of  35mph or, the posted limit, whichever is less and suggested hours of riding will be between 6 am and 12 midnight.  Where these restrictiopns are in place please follow them. At other times please ride safely based on yoour skill and machine.  Always operate respectfully.
  4. ROUTE AMBASSADORS      Volunteers will be trained to assist lost or stranded riders, address oute safety concerns, signage issues, GPS routes and to encourage lawful riding and compliance.
  5. Hi-Vis VESTS      Visibility on the Roads is critical.  New  Members are encouraged to increase their visiablity- particularly ATV users.  SAC-ATV make ANSI II compliant HI Visibility Vest  available for $10 each with the Club's logo imprinted on the back.  

Road Rules 

Wisconsin DNR A/UTV Regulations are stated in full on-line and in their 2021 booklet: "WisconsinATV/UTV Laws" Please read this publication before you ride.  Below are some highlights:

  • Generally, A/UTV operators must be 16 years of age. Please review  pages 28 to 31 for details.
  • An A/UTV Safety Certificate is required for all operators born after 12/31/1987. 
  • Helmets are required to be worn by operators and passenger under 18 years of age.
  • Operators must stay designated Routes, single file, on pavement, and on the right side of road.
  • Operators must abide by all traffic laws and signs on routes.
  • Speed limits on all roads are the posted limit or 35 mph, whichever is less.
  • ATV/UTV headlights and taillights must be on at all times while on routes.
  • Respect property and privacy. How you ride reflects on the image of all ATV/UTV enthusiasts.
  • No wheelies or donuts.
